What is it and why should I care? Well, that was my first thought when I first heard about it. Honestly I wasn’t too impressed with these expressions, as I heard these long and complicated expressions that only a handful of people understand, every single day at work. Still, I was persuaded to investigate further regarding service level management and end-to-end monitoring.
So if we start with service level management, that is really quite simple, though many may not realize this. It’s all about service level management agreements, which you should know what is, if you’ve got a webhost or similar. It’s simply specification of what you get for your money. Obviously, service level management, has to do with validation this agreement to make sure you actually get what you pay for.
Then there’s end-to-end monitoring, which is a somewhat different story. I can’t really go into details at this point, as I don’t understand it that well, but has to do with monitoring at computer system in details. Where the bottlenecks are, which parts are not efficient enough and so on and so forth.
So service level management and end-to-end monitoring. I honestly don’t see why I needed to investigate it, as my systems works quite well, but now I know and I suppose that is a good thing.
